1 case confirmed in Thailand:
The confirmed case is a man in his 70s, according to a report from the Thai health ministry. The patient is a businessman from Oman, reported Reuters.
The ministry also said that 56 people were being monitored for the virus, with three more quarantined. The patient, as well as those under quarantine and being monitored, are warded at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in Nonthaburi province, said the minister.
The infected patient was in Thailand to seek treatment for a heart condition and was admitted at a private hospital on Jun 15, according to the health ministry. He and his relatives were separated from the other patients as a precaution.
He was then transferred to the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute on Thursday and is now being kept in isolation where his condition is stable, the health ministry said.
Authorities are looking for people who were on the same flight as well as anyone else who came in contact with man during his time in Bangkok.
"We are confident that we can control the outbreak," said spokesman Major General Sunsern Kaewkamnerd in a statement, adding that "disease control" measures were in place, including monitoring the health of his three family members.
The four asian countries are Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Thailand's health authorities on Friday are tracing people who had contact with its first case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers). On
Thursday, it became the fourth Asian country to register the deadly
virus this year with its first confirmed Mers case. A 75-year-old
businessman from Oman tested positive for the virus. The patient had
arrived in the kingdom with his family three days earlier, and had
travelled to a central Bangkok hospital for treatment for a heart
problem. He was later moved to Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases
Institute in Nonthaburi province on the outskirts of the Thai capital
after being tested for Mers. The man and his family are all being
monitored at the institute. Some 59 other people who had contact with
the patient are also being monitored for the virus. Authorities are now
looking for people who were on the same flight as the patient as well as
anyone else who came in contact with the man during his time in
