返查發現官方資料，中國、香港天文台 (2002 開始有網上版下載)都是以 9月17為中秋（農曆8月15），台灣政府亦是。

1978年在香港和廣州（坊間）等地出現了兩種版本的農曆。根據紫金山天文臺（中）編的農曆該年的八月初一在公曆9月3日(合朔時刻是00:09(UTC+8))，而香港和從香港運到廣州等地的一些日曆根據宣統《萬年曆》（台）載八月初一在公曆9月2日，導致兩種版本的中秋節日期有一日差異。

這朔日差異主要是由於宣統《萬年曆》（台）計算的時間是根據北京的地方視時，有~14.5分鐘差異，推算的合朔時刻（初一）在9月3日零時之前數分鐘。自此以後，香港續漸跟隨內地採用紫金山天文臺編的農曆。

北京平太陽時 / 北京時間（UTC + 8） - 14.5 分鐘 = 北京地方視時

另一原因是宣統萬年書過了六十多年沒有修正，cumulative error 愈來愈明顯。

按劉寶琳所述，1953年8月（農七月）,1978,1989 有類似月大月小反轉情況出現,

2000後 2013,2019,2023,2030，2031亦有同類錯誤出現

在1989年報章上,台灣氣象局亦承認紫金山天文台曆較宣統萬年書準確

香港天文台：

由於計算數十年後的月相及節氣時間可能會有數分鐘的誤差，若新月(即農曆初一)或節氣時間很接近午夜零時，「對照表」內相關農曆月份或節氣的日期可能會有一日之差別。這些情況會出現在2057年9月28日、2089年9月4日及2097年8月7日的新月、2021年的冬至、2051年的春分、2083年的立春和2084年的春分。
