IMX224 and IMX225 are using the high conversion ratio (V = Q/C) design in its sensel design.
This is not done by high-gain Pre-Amp, but higher conversion ratio when photo-electrons are converted and measured in voltage unit.
It's about the 2x higher than a commonly-seen sensel design. (BTW, when A7s ISO setting is 2000 or higher, its conversion ratio is boosted to 2x as well !)
Another new capability is its pre-amp is capable of being set at 72 dB, while a typical sensor will just be 50 dB. This indicates the image sensor really has to be low noise in the first place or the high gain preamp will simply just amplifying the noises!
On the other hand, thermal noise still need to be kept at bay.
