from cloudynights post
Seestar Pro's not sourcing their "585" sensors from Sony?

The S50 Pro has been released, but the specs on the ZWO website do not state "585" sensor. They only give general specs that match the 585.
The S30 Pro page on ZWO doesn't either. Did it ever? Retailers state "585", but maybe this is no longer correct. (Update: It isn't stated on their global site, but the US store site states 585)
Sam (ZWO CEO) did mention to Luca at NEAF, "Sony, they say they cannot provide enough sensor" Context starts HERE in her video. The quote starts at 23:21.
Cuiv, in his review, points out HERE that "585" is not stated. He also states in a text overlay that he did find a non-Sony sensor with the same general specs as the 585.
It's possible that the Pro's are not using only Sony sensors, if at all. They could be using sensors from both Sony and another vendor to satisfy their supply chain demand.
With the S30 Pro, has anyone noticed if there is performance variation between different units?

in 2021, on ipcamtalk forum , ipcamuser11 rate omnivision B10 even higher than sony IMX585( 2021 product)
I don't see any hope that Hikvision or Dahua will use DLSR sensor on their CCTV cameras, especially sensors from Sony. Actually they have all switched to Chinese providers a few years ago after the US sanctions, which are OminiVision and SmartSens. Hikvision uses OV OS08B10 on all their high-end 1/1.2" models, Dahua used to use Sony IMX485 but later changed to OS08B10 too. From my own experience, Hikvision's OS08B10 is even better than my IMX585 module in low light performance, maybe because it's better fine-tuned by Hikvision's engineers, but OV also has better specs on paper than IMX585 even though OS08B10 was released earlier. SmartSens also have a 1/1.2" 8MP sensor SC880SL, but seems never used on any actual product, its smaller version 1/1.8" 8MP SC850SL is already widely used. Specs on paper are much better than its Sony competitor IMX678, ~100% QE on visible light band, 70%+ QE on 850nm IR band, while Sony's Starvis 2 sensors has only 80% and 50% QE.
it really depends on use case scenario.
So for bortle 5 or worse locations, background noise is very high, sony and omnivision are similar
for bortle 4 or better locations , Omnivision has lower read noise, thus perform better.
btw, DJI, INSTA360 , GoPro cams also withhold the manufacturer info, and just quote "1/1.28" 2.44 um" in the spec. example
anyways, in smart telescope markets cutting edge high spec camera sensor has never been selected.
